Tess Englis developed a scalable Mother Tongue–Based Instruction (MTI) framework for STEM education targeting multilingual and Indigenous students, with a focus on the Apache community in Arizona. By aligning mathematical concepts with students' linguistic and cultural contexts, the model measurably improves learning outcomes in communities where instruction in a non-native language creates systemic barriers.
